Northern Soul in Australia and around the World. The music, the labels, the performers, the clubs, the Twisted  Wheel, Wigan Casino are the main subjects of this website, named Northern Soul in Oz after the Yahoo Group Northernsoulinoz. Northern has evolved over 30 years, its birthplace being Manchester's Twisted Wheel and then heavily influenced by clubs right across the UK, including Manchester's Pendulum, Blackpool's Mecca, Stoke's Torch (Golden Torch), Wolverhampton's Catacombs, Bolton's Va Va's, London's and Leeds Central and of course the Wigan Casino.

What is Northern Soul?

"Northern Soul" has developed a distinct style of its own mainly influenced by the music of the late 1960s' and early to mid 1970s'. A unique sound and style developed which was heavily influenced by the tracks played at the Twisted Wheel and the Wigan Casino. Northern Soul has remained resilient, after all, nothing is more important than listening to and enjoying Soul music and no-one has, or should ever claim to have a monopoly on that.

As only the late Edwin Starr could put it:

I am sure that a great many US artists would pay homage
to the UK Northern Soul Scene. It has allowed us to still have
some place to be.

Maybe we are not on BBC Radio 1, or recognised at music
awards, but the one thing that can never be taken away is our
Northern Soul legacy".
